· Written exam – Stable management, disabilities, teaching

· (Closed book test – reflects references)

· Lunging (5 minutes)

· Riding, horse evaluation and training knowledge (15 minutes)

· Teaching a person without a disability (15 minutes)

· Teaching a group lesson for riders with a cognitive disability (30 minutes)

· Teaching a group lesson for riders with a physical disability (30 minutes)

  1. Having a plan and being prepared (Study guide attached)

12:00 noon Lunch

1:00 pm Practical Stable management presentation

· Grooming, tacking and handling (Expectation and exam)

· Selection of the therapy horse, analysing the horses movement

· Training and desensitizing the therapy horse

2:00 pm Practical Lunging presentation (2-3 horses and scenarios) (Expectation and exam)

· Lunging for the vet

· Lunging a student

· Lunging for schooling canter departs

3:00 pm Break

3:15 pm Practical Candidate Riding and Horse evaluation presentation (3 riders)

· Equine evaluation (3 horses)

4:30 pm Mock written exam - handed out

Day 2

8:30 am Effective Lesson Planning – the plan for the advanced lesson success

· Objectives

· Structure

· What, Why How.

· Practice

· Application to various classes

Progress notes – how to share and enhance your students success

· How to be efficient

· How to have parent/rider – Instructor interviews

· How to set new goals for your riders and keep your lessons progressive

· How to utilize the good work you do in the arena as marketing tools for your center

1:00 pm Teaching an Able-bodied lesson presentation with 2 riders

2:00 pm Teaching a lesson for 3 riders with primarily a Cognitive disability presentation – 3 riders

3:00 pm Teaching a lesson for 3 riders with primarily a Physical disability presentation – 3 riders

4:00 pm * Tips for being more efficient in your lessons (heighten your awareness to the advanced level)

1. Skills for managing volunteers in a lesson

2. Use of adaptive equipment to assist with the riders independence

3. Riders assessment and placement

5:30 pm Review of all components Practical Demonstration Content

· Lunging demonstration (15 minutes)

· Mounting (crest, croup, being efficient, tips on time management

· Selection and evaluation of horses

· Lesson plans – objectives, progression

· Riding, horse evaluation and training knowledge (expectation video)

· Teaching a person without a disability (expectation) (15 minute lesson observed)

· Teaching a group lesson for riders with a cognitive disability (expectation)
