Therapeutic Riding

Therapeutic riding instructors design and implement individualized programs based on each rider's need. All instructors are specially trained and certified through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International.  PATH is an internationally known organization which promotes safe, professional, ethical and therapeutic equine activities through education, communication, standards & research for people with and without disabilities.

We teach riding skills so participants may enjoy horseback riding as a recreational activity.  Through carefully prepared activities, riders learn to stop and start, turn or negotiate obstacles.  They also move through various changes of speed when appropriate.  Some riders participate in grooming an tacking their own horse.  Activities include games that assist in balance, motor planning, spatial awareness and sensory integration.

All applications are reviewed for possible participation.  Once an application is received, a tour of the facility is scheduled for you.  If class space is available, an intake assessment is scheduled.  All riders must have a physician's statement indicating there are no contraindications for participating in an equine program.
