Adaptive Riding and Adaptive Horsemanship

At Horses Help the Adaptive Riding and Adaptive Horsemanship program focuses on teaching riding and horsemanship skills while challenging participants physically, cognitively and socially. Each PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and/or Equine Specialist at Horses Help works with riders ages 4+ to motivate and assist them in safely developing independent skills that can carry over into their everyday lives.

Adaptive Riding and Adaptive Horsemanship classes are conducted as group lessons. Working with parents/guardians and the participant, Instructors set individualized goals that each person sets out to achieve at their own pace. With the support of the Instructor, community volunteers, and their trusted horse participants are able to realize their full potential and achieve amazing things!

Note: Adaptive Riding is also commonly called Therapeutic Riding

Horseshelp.orgHippotherapy is conducted by Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists who have achieved, at minimum, a Level One Certification through the American Hippotherapy Association. These therapists understand the three-dimensional gait of the horse and how to appropriately and safely apply this knowledge to achieve individualized therapy goals. Participants as young as three can benefit from Hippotherapy.

Did you know that ‘hippos’ is the Greek word for horse? Hippotherapy literally means ‘horse therapy’.

Equine Assisted Learning

Horseshelp.orgParticipants engage in hands-on learning that utilizes the horse as a partner in exploring positive development of communication, self-respect, confidence, trust, accountability and conflict resolution. Classes incorporate a variety of ground work and general horsemanship activities such as grooming, leading, and herd observation. The Equine Assisted Learning program can be tailored to specific individuals, populations, or organizations and is overseen by PATH Intl. Certified Equine Specialists.

Equine Facilitated Mental Health

Clients interact with the horses under the supervision of a dedicated team consisting of a specially trained Mental Health Professional and a PATH Intl. Equine Specialist. The horse’s accepting nature, ability to give immediate objective non-verbal feedback, and their capability to reflect experiences and feelings combine to create and ideal experiential learning environment.

Operation Unbridled for Military/Fire/Police

The Military & First Responders Program is committed to enhancing the lives of military men and women by providing services to active, separated and retired service members. Participants can take advantage of any Horses Help Program: Hippotherapy, Adaptive Riding, Equine Assisted Learning, and Equine Facilitated Mental Health. As a way of saying ‘thank you’ Operation Unbridled is offered at  a very minimal cost to the participant: $30 per Session (5-6 week block of classes). This program is valued at over $250 per participant per Session but has been offset by grants, private donors and community support.

Summer Enrichment Programs

Horses Help offers fun and educational programs for Arizona’s youth. While teaching horsemanship and riding skills, these programs also incorporate math, general science, equine science, and language arts into a well-rounded curriculum providing an enjoyable experience for typical youth ranging in age from 4-17.
