This summer, we borrowed from the Oregon Trail game concept and brought to life the hardships and adventures of pioneer life in the American West. Our adventurers were immersed in tremendous life lessons like caring for their mode of transportation – their horses! They worked together on a mapping project so they understood what it would take for a successful journey. Then, together, they resourced their adventure (and the fun!) by mining for gold, buying supplies at the supply store, learning how to track animals for food, fly fish, build a shelter for the trip. These activities were generously supported with donations from Cabelas! Every kid had a chance to hone their horsemanship and riding skills so that they could safely make the trek.
Thank you to the families that attended our Pioneer Days events. We enjoyed our time with you at the barn, and look forward to seeing you next summer!
This short two-hour program allowed young readers of different abilities to enjoy Story Time with the Horses Help Herd, participate in fun arts and crafts or gardening, learn about horses while grooming, and play fun games while riding one of our amazing horses!
We are planning for additional sessions later this fall, and registration information will be sent out as soon as we finalize scheduling. In the meantime, please drop us a line if you’re interested in fall enrollment and we’ll be sure to keep you notified once we’re ready to announce dates.
